My people in Virtual Villagers 2 keep dying?

I keep running out of food sources! My ocean is full of algae, my coconut source is empty, my crops don't come up for another 1000 minutes, there's no food in my bin, and I only have 40,000 tech points. There's no way to win! Help, please?
